It was 1886 when Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra were married and crowned. The celebrations were impressive, attended by representatives of noble families from Greece, Persia, Romania, Denmark, Belgium, China, and Japan. This event is remembered as a happy day for the Russian Empire, but a difficult one for the new Tsar, burdened with responsibilities at the young age of 26. In commemoration of this day, in 1897 the jeweler Fabergé created the astonishing "Coronation Egg." Inside, the egg contains an accurate reproduction of the carriage that accompanied Tsarina Alexandra to the Kremlin. Today, this egg is on public display at the Kremlin's Diamond Fund.
